At a joint press conference in Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized Germany for “overlooking” what he called Israel’s “genocide” and attacks on Gaza. Speaking alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Erdogan accused Israel of using nuclear and other weapons against Palestinians while Hamas had none, and questioned Germany’s silence. He also commented on the imprisonment of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, saying no one is above the law and that the judiciary is handling the case. Erdogan further emphasized the potential for stronger Turkey–Germany cooperation in the defence sector through joint projects.
