Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban criticised the European Union’s handling of frozen Russian assets and warned that bypassing unanimity rules is a “historic mistake” and a violation of EU law. Orban accused Brussels of undermining member states’ rights, compares the move to a “coup d’état,” and said such decisions set a dangerous precedent. He also attacked EU energy policy, blaming sanctions and the break with Russian energy for damaging Europe’s economy, while reiterating Hungary’s refusal to disconnect from any energy source.
