EU's Russia energy ban backfires as own member warns gas reserves to run out before winter ends

Several EU allies are warning that the bloc’s push to phase out Russian energy is colliding with hard winter realities, exposing storage gaps and deep political fissures. Latvian MP Andris Kulbergs says the region’s main gas storage is only partly filled and being rapidly drawn down by the Baltics, Finland and Poland, warning stocks might not even last three months and questioning who is ensuring secure, reliable supply. At the same time, Hungary and Slovakia are threatening to take the EU to court to overturn the RePowerEU plan to ban Russian oil and gas import.
