India gave a strong response to Chinese statements on the official bifurcation and conversion of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories. On the day that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh came into being, China's foreign ministry called the move 'illegal' and 'ineffective'. The Indian government hit back, stating that it doesn't expect China or any other country to interfere in its internal affairs. India also pointed out that China is in occupation of a large tract of land in the region.
