International Women’s Day: Meet Shatbhi Basu, India’s first professional woman bartender
Published on Mar 08, 2018 04:56 pm IST
At a time when hotel management courses didn't even exist, Shatbhi embarked upon a journey full of a roller coaster ride. Once in the food industry, she decided to become a chef. But after getting shunted through various odd and menial roles in the kitchen to no avail, she quit. The kitchen was off-limits but she hung around. A manager suggested that she should handle the bar. Once she started reading up about it, she developed a liking for it. Since then, there has been no looking back. Shatbhi has designed several bars in India and abroad and runs India's first and only bartending academy called STIR.
