Israeli soldiers killed dozens of Palestinians during mass protests along the Gaza Border

Violent clashes between hundreds of Palestinian protesters and Israeli soldiers along the eastern Gaza Strip have left several Palestinians killed and thousands injured, said medical specialists. Ashraf al-Qedra, the spokesman of the health ministry in Gaza, told reporters that Israeli armed soldiers have shot at least 55 Palestinians and wounded 2,771 others, making this the bloodiest day since the end of the Israeli large-scale offensive waged on the Gaza Strip in the summer of 2014. One of the main driving factors behind this large scale protest is the United States, which relocated its Israeli embassy on May 14 from Tel Aviv to the disputed area of Jerusalem, which Israel and Palestine both claim. The protest, which had Palestinians of all ages, has been dubbed the, “Great March of Return”. On May 15, Palestinians will observe Nakba, the Arab word for “catastrophe” -- when more than 700,000 Palestinians lost their lands to Israel in 1948. To many Palestinians this is just the beginning and the least that they could do to express the magnitude of their irritation that the United States would not only make this decision, but also to it the day before the 70th anniversary of Nakba.
