‘Vaccine nationalism only helps the virus’: WHO on global Covid-19 vaccine plan

The World Health Organization has said that 172 countries are engaging in the COVAX global vaccine facility. Addressing a press conference, WHO director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that more funding is needed and more countries need to make binding commitments. The WHO chief said that a globally coordinated rollout of the vaccine is the need and added that they will also try to keep prices as low as possible. Warning against 'vaccine nationalism' the WHO Director General said that this will only help the virus and could also lead to a spike in prices of the vaccine. He urged the world to come together and said that success of the COVAX facility will help lower income economies as well. 'Initially, when there will be limited supply, it's important to provide the vaccine to those at highest risk around the globe,' Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.
