A woman in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh alleged that her husband pronounced instant triple talaq to divorce her. She accused him of domestic violence as well. The complainant alleged that her husband used to drink and didn't do any work. Police said they would investigate and take appropriate action. Instant triple talaq was recently criminalised by the Parliament. The Upper House of Parliament passed the bill on July 30, 2019, 5 days after the Lower House. The law prescribed imprisonment upto 3 years for practicing instant triple talaq.
