Mumbai Oil Spill incurs loss of around Rs 85 crore per day

Custom officials has estimated the daily import duty loss at Rs 85 crore as daily business was halted at Mumbai Port Trust (MPT) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) after the collision between two Panamanian ships on Saturday. The shipping companies acknowledged that they are facing a pressure of supplying goods to the clients and they tried to divert the supply to other ports but failed as the custom department says that they do not have rights to give any such permission. Due to shutting of ports, several ships carrying vegetable oils, steel, crude oil and naphtha have been unable to berth or sail out.
