The Weapons of Mass Destruction Bill seeks to amend a 17-yr-old law, enacted in 2005. The 2005 Act barred manufacturing, transport, or transfer related to WMDs. The amendment bill bars persons from financing prohibited activities related to WMDs. The term WMD is usually understood to cover nuclear, biological & chemical weapons. The passage of the amendment will boost India’s nat'l security & global position. The UNSC & FATF have mandated against the financing of proliferation of WMDs.
