Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday accused former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government of delaying land acquisition required to complete fencing along the India-Bangladesh border. Speaking in Siliguri, Shah said his government had repeatedly requested land for border security but alleged that the previous administration failed to provide it. He praised Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, claiming 11,029 acres were handed over to the BSF and SSB within 45 days of the government taking office. Shah also highlighted the strategic importance of the Siliguri Corridor, or “Chicken’s Neck”, and inaugurated ₹189 crore worth of SSB infrastructure projects.
