The United States has acknowledged the controversial directives issued in the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, requiring eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display owners' names. This issue was highlighted during a U.S. State Department briefing by a Pakistani journalist, prompting U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller to emphasize the importance of religious equality.
