Moscow has reportedly released a group of female prisoners to join the ongoing war in Ukraine. According to a report in The New York Times, Russia released some women inmates in May. Military recruiters allegedly collected some women from a prison outside St. Petersburg, as revealed by ex-inmates interviewed by NYT. The women have reportedly offered one-year contracts for roles as combat medics, frontline personnel, and snipers, as per the report. They were promised pardons on the condition of recruitment for war efforts. Additionally, recruits were said to receive a monthly salary of $2,000, as reported by NYT.
