‘Russian army major general Vitaly Gerasimov killed near Kharkiv,’ says Ukraine

In a big setback to Russia, Ukraine has claimed to have killed Russia's top general near the eastern city of Kharkiv. Ukraine identified the Russian soldier as Major General Vitaly Gerasimov. As per reports, he was the first deputy commander of the 41st Army of the Central Military District of Russia. As per reports, Gerasimov played a role in the Second Chechen War and the Russian military operations that took place in Syria. He was also awarded a medal ‘for the return of the Crimea’ in 2014.
