The Trump administration has approved a potential $100 million foreign military sale to Japan for upgrading its Aegis-equipped destroyers. Announced on December 16, 2025, via the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the deal ensures Japan’s destroyers remain fully mission-capable in air and missile defense. Lockheed Martin will provide system testing, software updates, and engineering support. The sale strengthens Japan’s fleet modernization, enhances interoperability with the U.S. Navy, and boosts defense cooperation in the Indo-Pacific amid growing regional security challenges.
