‘Unlawful’: UK SC reverses Parliament suspension by PM Boris ahead of Brexit

Published on Sept 24, 2019 09:03 pm IST

The Supreme Court of United Kingdom on Tuesday said Prime Minister Boris Johnson's act to suspend the Parliament was 'unlawful'. The 11 judges of the Supreme Court gave a unanimous verdict. The verdict meant that parliament could immediately reconvene. Boris Johnson had earlier advised Queen Elizabeth II to suspend the parliament. Johnson had argued that suspending Parliament was a routine move. Johnson said he disagreed with the Supreme Court's judgment, but would 'get on' with finalising a Brexit deal. UK is scheduled to exit the European Union on October 31, 2019.
