Holy month of Ramadan not only bring prosperity, light and happiness in the lives of the people but also shopkeepers. Ramadan means big business for UK retailers. The Islamic-focused department store, which boasts five locations across the UK, sells everything from clothes and halal sweets, to prayer mats and perfumes. Store manager Faizal Bhayat says business always peaks around Ramadan, and also just before the annual Hajj pilgrimage. But it's not just traditional foods like dates - often eaten as part of the pre-dawn meal, called “suhoor” - that shoppers are after. Bhayat says they're looking for various spiritual items, like Qurans and skull caps, and also colourful new clothes and gifts, such as perfumes. The Ramadan economy is valued at around £200 million British pounds (approx. $236 million USD). But 62 percent of those surveyed said they felt disappointed by the current level of engagement by brands and retailers. According to a recent report by Islamic branding consultancy Ogilvy Noor, Ramadan is now the third most celebrated holiday in Britain, after Christian festivals Christmas and Easter.
