Venezuela's political showdown on Saturday moved to the United Nations where US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expressed his administration's support of the country's self-declared interim leader Juan Guaido.
Pompeo also said the regime of President Nicolas Maduro “has oppressed its people for years”.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza and other council members, which include supporters of both duelling presidents, are also expected to address the meeting in New York.
