Many rallies and demonstrations were held across Asia to mark the International Working Women's Day. Hundreds of women wearing pink shirts took to the streets in Manila, Philippines to protest against the country's president Rodrigo Duterte. Duterte has, in the past, made sexist remarks against women. Recently, he was caught in another controversy when it was reported that he asked his soldiers to shoot women rebels “in the vagina”. Meanwhile, migrant women gathered on the streets of Hong Kong to demand labour rights. Most of them work as domestic helpers with no fixed number of working hours and low wages.
