The US Supreme Court, in an historic ruling, declared that gay couples have the right to marry across the country. Gay and lesbian couples could already marry in 36 states and the district of Columbia. The court's ruling means that the remaining 14 states will have to stop enforcing their bans on same-sex marriage. Michigan couple April Deboer and Jayne Rowse, who were among the plantiffs, were ecstatic about witnessing this ruling in their lifetime. They plan to get married by the end of the summer. Lead Plantiff James Obergefell had fought in Ohio to have his name listed on his late husband's death certificate. While addressing the media, he said, "This is for you, John."
