amFAR fundraiser: When glamour met for a cause at Cannes

The amFAR fundraiser was the highlight on the ninth day at the Cannes Film Festival.

A host of divas from the world of fashion and films walked the ramp at the 69th Cannes film festival on Thursday for a cause, close to their heart.

On the ninth day of the prestigious film festival, celebrities walked on the red carpet for the amFAR Cinema Against Aids. “It’s always a slightly uncomfortable mix,” Helen Mirren said.

But it “raises an awful lot of money” for a very important charity. AIDS is still a devastating illness, destroying communities all over the world and this charity will help with that so we’ll make AIDS history,” she added.

Others who attended the event included actors Uma Thurman, Leonardo Di Caprio, Milla Jovovich, Kirsten Dunst. From India, actor Sonam Kapoor and Mallika Sherawat attended the fundraiser .

Meanwhile, it was all about films in the day. Highly anticipated film by director Xavier Dolan’s It’s Only the End of the World however disappointed many present at the event.

The movie stars Gaspard Ulliel (Saint Laurent) as a terminally ill playwright with strained family relations.In the film, the roles of mother, sister and brother are portrayed by Nathalie Baye, Léa Seydoux and Cassel, respectively, leaving his only ally as the sister-in-law, he’s never met, played by Cotillard.

American singer-songwriter Iggy Pop, too took centrestage on Thursday to talk about Jim Jarmusch’s documentary Gimme Danger, which focuses on his punk band The Stooges.

“I don’t drug up anymore,” the “Lust for Life” singer said during a press conference. “I don’t do it. I have wine with dinner and that’s about it,” he said.
