“Given the current situation, the Jio MAMI 18th Mumbai Film Festival with Star has decided not to programme Jago Hua Savera as part of the Restored Classics Section,” the statement read.

The decision comes after Prithvi Maske, President of Sangharsh Foundation, an NGO in Mumbai, filed a complaint at Amboli police station against Jio MAMI for screening of the 1959 Pakistani film -- directed by AJ Kardar.

Over 180 films from 54 countries, including features, documentaries, short films are to be showcased at the festival.

After the September 18 terrorist attack at an army camp in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, ties between India and Pakistan have worsened. There are debates whether Pakistani artistes should be banned from working in India amid tensions between the nations.

The film fest will begin from October 20 in Mumbai.
