Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident, was identified as the woman shot and killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during a federal targeted operation on January 7.

Identity confirmed by mother and circumstances
Good's identity was confirmed by her mother, Donna Ganger, shortly after the incident. The shooting occurred on Portland Avenue in south Minneapolis.
According to reports, the ICE agents were conducting targeted immigration enforcement operations.
The Star Tribune reported that Ganger said, “Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known,” she said. “She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.”

Renee lived with her partner
Renee Nicole Good lived with her partner in the Twin Cities, Ganger confirmed to the Star Tribune. It is not known if she lived in Minneapolis.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) described the shots as defensive, claiming an agent was in danger. However, eyewitnesses dispute parts of this account, saying the footage contradicts the official narrative.
Conflictive narratives around the video
Officials from DHS and ICE assert that the agent fired in self-defence as Good's vehicle advanced toward law enforcement personnel.
The claim has largely been contested by city leaders and community witnesses. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey condemned the federal presence and called for ICE to “leave the city.”
Critics are questioning whether the deadly force used on the Good was justified.

Ongoing investigation
State authorities, including the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), are each investigating the shooting.
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said, “We will use every available lever to ensure a local, transparent investigation takes place.”
