UPDATE: A juvenile was shot Friday afternoon near High Point High School in Beltsville, Maryland, prompting a temporary lockdown of the school.
Prince George’s County Police said the shooting occurred before 2:10 p.m. in the 3400 block of Powder Mill Road. The victim, a minor, was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Although the shooting did not happen on school grounds, High Point High School was placed on lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown has since been lifted, and students were released from the building beginning around 2:56 p.m.
“The lockdown is now lifted and dismissal will begin. Thank you for your patience,” Prince George's County Public Schools said in a Facebook post.
Prince George's County Police added, “As of 3:50 pm, the area of Powder Mill Road and Cherry Hill Road by High Point High School is now open. Please drive safely.”
Authorities were still searching for a suspect as of 3 p.m.

Prince George’s County Public Schools also issued a statement, saying, “High Point High School is currently on lockdown out of an abundance of caution due to police activity in the area. Updates will be provided as necessary.”
