A police officer was shot near the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) campus in Catonsville on Thursday afternoon. The shooting took place outside Wilkens Precinct on 900 block of Walker Avenue around 3p.m., Fox Baltimore reported.

In a post on X, the Baltimore County Police Department reported, “PIO is en route to the 900 block of Walker Ave., 21228, following reports of a shooting. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available. Please monitor social media for updates.”
UMBC sent a message to students and staff saying the suspect is in custody. Students were urged to stay away from the area of Walker Avenue.
"Our police department has let the campus know that the shooter is in custody, but to avoid the area due to continued police activity. Emergency updates will be posted at the top of our home page umbc.edu," UMBC spokesperson Cherie Ann Parker told Patch in an email.
The police officer has been taken to University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. There is no information on the officer's condition at the moment. The suspect has not been identified.
