Tumblr was reportedly down on Friday for thousands of users, as people took to social media to lodge their complaints. At the time of writing, Downdetector noted over 6,000 people facing problems.
As per the site, the issue appeared to be with the app and website. Several people let their frustrations be known in the comments section. “still cant get in. Let me in!,” one person remarked.
Downdetector noted that people were facing problems since 5:55 PM EST.
As per the outage map, the problem was faced in places like Washington, New York, and Boston, with the east coast appearing to be worse hit than the west. Seattle and Los Angeles, on the opposite side appeared to have problems.

{{/usCountry}}Tumblr is a microblogging and social media platform which is used for sharing diverse multimedia content like text, photos, GIFs, videos, and music. It reportedly has 135 to 142 million monthly active users as of early 2026.
Many of these people expressed dissatisfaction at being unable to access Tumblr.
On X, the complaints piled on. One person said, “the first time i feel like going on tumblr in a while and its down.” Another added, “Tumblr dashboard is back but has zero posts except ad telling me to get the app.”
“Tumblr is down and I feel like I’ve been locked out of my house and I’ve got to wait for my mum to come and let me in,” one person remarked, giving a glimpse into how much users rely on accessing the app. Another person who appears to be a frequent user asked “Tumblr is down, what am I supposed to do now?”.
A person who appears to have visited the site for their dose of fanfiction wrote “Tumblr is down and i cant read fanfiction before i go to bed.. life is not worth living and i will start a life at sea as the captain of a whaling ship dm me if interested xx.”
The cause for the outage is not yet known. Tumblr is yet to issue a statement.
