"The funeral will be held at about 2 pm (local time)" in Garhi Khuda Buksh village, said Capt Wasif Syed, a senior leader of Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party (PPP).

"She will be laid to rest near her father Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto at the (family) graveyard (in the village) after the Jumma prayers," he told PTI.

"Thousands of people have begun gathering for her burial," Syed said, breaking down.

Workers were shown by Geo News channel preparing a burial spot for Bhutto, who died on Thursday after being shot by a suicide attacker shortly after an election rally in Rawalpindi, near her father's grave.

The village is home to the Bhutto family mausoleum, which Bhutto had visited soon after she returned to Pakistan from exile in October to pray at her father's grave.

Bhutto's body was flown late last night in a military aircraft from Rawalpindi to Sukkur, an airport near her ancestral village of Naudero in Sindh. Her husband Asif Ali Zardari and children Bilawal, Bakhtawar and Asifa, who flew in from Dubai yesterday evening, accompanied the coffin.
