Fewer youths in Serbia would move to live abroad: study

The number of young people in Serbia who wish to continue their life abroad has decreased, a Minister has said, stressing that the number of those who see their future in their current place of residence has increased significantly.

The number of young people in Serbia who wish to continue their life abroad has decreased, a Minister has said, stressing that the number of those who see their future in their current place of residence has increased significantly.

Minister for Youth and Sport Snezana Samardzic Markovic said this while presenting the results of a research on the future of young people in Serbia.

In comparison with a similar research conducted in December 2007, the number of Serbian citizens aged between 15 and 30 who wish to leave the country is lower by 10 percent, she said.

The research conducted by the Center for Free Elections and Democracy, says the motives for moving abroad are still the question of living standard, followed by the possibility of better education and professional advancement.

According to the research, this time far more polled young Serbian citizens expressed readiness to remain in the country -- 35 percent of those aged between 15-19 years, 40 percent of those aged between 20-24 years and 57 percent of Serbian citizens aged between 25 and 29 years.
