Brazil’s former star striker and World Cup winner Rivaldo will grace the finals of the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament beginning September 14, exactly a year after the legendary Pele’s visit to the country for the school tournament.

The 44-year-old former Barcelona and Milan star is expected to make an appearance for the U-17 junior boys final at the Ambedkar Stadium on October 22.

Rivaldo was one of the most skillful and creative players of his generation, possessing the ability to both score and create goals. Since making his debut in 1993 to calling it quits in 2003, Rivaldo has played in 74 international matches and scored 35 goals, and won the the World Cup in 2002.

“We are happy to announce that Brazilian football legend Rivaldo will be the guest of honour for the grand finale,” Air Force officials said.

The tournament will see participation from 98 teams, including 10 from abroad.

Last year, Pele was present at the final with his presence at the closing ceremony as he visited the country to watch his former club Santos FC who were taking part in the tournament, which is one of the most famous inter-school football events in the country.
