During surprise checking at all district depots and 326 schools across the state, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) recovered counterfeit textbooks from nine places. All these are Class-10 science textbooks in Punjabi medium.
PSEB secretary JR Mehrok said the fake books have been recovered from College Book Store in Kapurthala besides eight schools in five districts. “The board has written to the SAS Nagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) to register a case against the culprits. The board has also sent the seized books to the SSP,” he said.
While the original books carry a watermark of the PSEB, the fake ones have a watermark of RSEB and are different in size and colour, said Mehrok.
The board had formed special teams to conduct the surprise checking, on the directions of education minister Daljit Singh Cheema. The schools from where the counterfeit books were recovered are Saini Public Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana; Government Senior Secondary School, Patiala; Suman Day Boarding Senior Secondary School and Senior Model Co-education Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar; PSSB Adarsh Senior Secondary School, SBS Nagar; and three government senior secondary schools in Bhim Nagar and Dala, Moga.
