Tamil drama Visaaranai directed by National Award-winning director Vetrimaaran completed floored the audience at the 17th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. The film was screened on Sunday that served as its Asian premiere. The film, produced by Dhanush, is inspired by true events.

“It’s a gutsy film. The images will haunt you for days. It’s undoubtedly the best film I’ve seen at the festival,” said Anand Kumar, a festival attendee. Another viewer was so moved by the film that he bowed to Vetrimaaran.

Produced by Dhanush, the film now awaits its Indian theatrical release. Vetrimaaran, however, is sure it will only be released with cuts. “Even if 70 percent of what we screened today is retained, I’d be really happy. But I highly doubt that,” he said.
