The National Association for the Blind (NAB) recently organised Ujjwala - A Blind Woman’s World of Light, at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. Visually impaired youngsters from all walks of life participated in the festival.

When some youngsters walked the ramp with confidence, the audience at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi couldn’t believe that the models were visually impaired.

A festival titled Ujjwala - A Blind Woman’s World of Light, organised by the National Association for Blind (NAB), was put together for the visually impaired youth. “Through this festival, we try to spread awareness that the visually impaired lead normal lives. People think they can’t have a sense of fashion, get married, or work, but none of this is true. They’re just as capable,” says Shalini Khanna, organiser and director, NAB.

The youngsters also participated in a self-defense demonstration.

As part of the festival, there were instrumental music and dance performances, a self-defence demonstration and a chess competition that were fun for all those attending. Among the participants were also young flute players, medical therapists, dancers, and theatre artists.
