Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Odissi: Inner life of an Indian dancer
An upcoming dance performance in the city will explore the inner world of Indian classical dancers through Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Odissi dance forms.
A rasik of Indian classical dance might wonder what goes in the mind of the dancer. An upcoming dance drama will give its audience a glimpse into the inner world of the female dancers of India.
Titled Antar Yatra: The Journey Within, the performance is choreographed and directed by Sharmila Biswas. The dance-drama will tour seven cities in India, and explore the tentative journey of conflicting thoughts, emotions and the magical world that a dancer believes in and creates for their audiences.
A collection of songs in six different languages, this performance will use three different dance forms Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Odissi, to capture the artistic vision and inner domain of the women dancers of India, from the past to the present.

Some of the dancers who will perform are Amrita Lahiri (Kuchipudi), Lakshmi Parthasarathy Athreya (Bharatanatyam), Sashwati Garai Ghosh (Odissi), and Srijan Chatterjee. Chatterjee is disciple of Guru Arun Bhaduri and will provide a crucial support for work on Odissi music for this performance.
Organised by the NGO AIM for Seva, in association with Odissi Vision & Movement Centre, the theme of the dance production this year is Temple Dance Traditions. Apasara, the celestial dancers, occupy a dominant space in Indian mythology. The temple dancers, the court dancers and other professional dancers of the past consider themselves the incarnations of the Apsaras. They are the Vidyadharis, who exist simultaneously in the mystic and the real worlds and engage in intimate dialogue with the abstract and bring the essence of it to the common man.

Elements such as the multiple voices of the narrator along with the art of puppetry and Pinnal Pollattam, a traditional folk dance of Tamil Nadu which is performed during the harvesting season, will heighten the viewing experience.
