AIADMK leads in Tamil Nadu in early trends

Tamil Nadu’s ruling AIAMDK party was ahead of the DMK as officials counted the millions of votes polled to pick a new 234-member assembly, officials said.

Ruling AIADMK is leading in five seats and its rival DMK in two, according to early trends in the counting of votes in Tamil Nadu assembly elections.

AIADMK was leading in Mayiladuthurai, Poompuhar, Sankari, Udhagamandalam and Athur, Election Commission said quoting early trends.

At Thuraiyur DMK was initially trailing but forged ahead. It was also leading in Thiruvaiyaru. The counting of votes polled in 232 Assembly constituencies in the state Tamil Nadu got underway earlier with the opening of postal ballots.
