A case has come to light where a brother of city planner Sunita Singh purportedly tried to stop the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) from demolishing a clubhouse in Ayodhya Nagar.
The case comes at a time when the BMC identified 70 encroachments which are to be demolished immediately at MP Nagar Zone 1, Trilanaga, Bittan Market, Shahpura, Arera Colony, 10 Number market , Gulmohar, Kohefiza and Idgah Hills.
Though the BMC’s excavator and men demolished Fusion Spice restaurant at Shahpura on September 3, the civic body did not touch a clubhouse that encroached land of residential township Ganpati Homes.
Clubhouse was projected as a welfare house
The clubhouse was projected as a welfare house, BMC sources said, adding that the clubhouse was owned by city planner Sunita Singh’s brother Pramod Singh.
In March, Sunita and additional commissioner GP Mali were removed from the BMC’s building permission wing.
The removals came after a delegation of builders met chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and complained about irregularities in the online system to grant permission for construction. A staff crunch, however, saw Sunita Singh again take over the wing in April.
Sarvesh Tripathi, who owns property at Ganapati Homes, called up the chief minister’s helpline number and registered a complaint about the illegal construction. Left with no option, Pramod Singh demolished the clubhouse on Thursday to avoid controversy.

{{/usCountry}}“Pramod Singh is the brother of city planner Sunita Singh. This is the reason that BMC took no action despite several complaints. The clubhouse encroached garden of our township. Pramod Singh and his men requested me to withdraw the complaint so that the clubhouse’s lower portion is saved from demolition. I didn’t agree. The BMC took action after I lodged a complaint with the CM’s helpline,” Tripathi said.

“ Yes, we got the complaint and our squad had also visited the site on Wednesday and gave the owner a notice , On Thursday most of the building was already demolished. I have asked additional commissioner MP Singh to investigate the entire matter,” BMC commissioner Chhavi Bharadwaj said.
The BMC civic body now says all major encroachments will be targeted and police help sought for demolition drive. After September 15, the anti-encroachment drive will be launched at Shastri Nagar where 50 houses have not maintained marginal open space. A case regarding the same is pending in Lokayukta.
