Breach in dam wall: Villagers stage demo

Agitated villagers on Monday staged demonstration in front of Paleha police station and demanded registration of FIR against those who are responsible for Bitri Mutmuru dam wall collapse.

Agitated villagers on Monday staged demonstration in front of Paleha police station and demanded registration of FIR against those who are responsible for Bitri Mutmuru dam wall collapse.

It may be mentioned here that on Sunday evening, the Bitri Mutmuru dam wall collapsed due to which heavy flow of water flooded many villages and the local administration evacuated villagers of these villages.

The district officials and minister of state Brijendra Pratap Singh assured agitating villagers that strict action would be taken against guilty persons. After their assurance, villagers ended their agitation.

The Panna collector Dhananjay Singh Bhadoriya told HT that prima facie it appears that the wall collapse was due to poor quality work and the department officials also feel so. However, this being technical matter detailed inquiry by the department would reveal exact cause.

Collector said strict action would be taken against guilty.

Congress MLA from Panna, Srikant Dubey said that it is a clear case of corruption which is The Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kantilal Bhuria on Monday said the dam, which burst in Panna district, was constructed at a cost of Rs 85 crore derived from the Bundelkhand package and the incident was one more example of how funds provided under the Bundelkhand package have been squandered in corruption.

He informed that last year three such incidents of breaching of dams were also reported. He said in coming session, he would raise the issue in the House.
