Bollywood actress Poonam Jhawer who is campaigning for the Samajwadi Party in Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday lodged a complaint with the Crime Branch in Bhopal asking for police protection as she felt her life was under threat.
"Some people called me on my cell phone and callers abused and threatened me to abandon campaigning in the State or acid will be thrown on my face and I will be eliminated," the actress told PTI.
"I have lodged a complaint with the police crime branch and I am hopeful of getting security," she said.
Poonam who featured in the Bollywood film Mohra in 1994 remarked that she was not frightened at all.
Poonam had left the party's electioneering mid-way in the State on November 20 and returned to Mumbai, after she received calls threatening her to leave the state or acid will be thrown on her face and she will be eliminated.
She kicked off electioneering in MP on November 16 from Bhopal and while she was enroute to Jabalpur the next day, she received the first threatening call, SP State Vice President, Amit Verma, said.
The actress even recorded two threatening calls to her, he said.

Verma outright denied that the actress had lodged complaint for a publicity stunt saying that they had recorded the threatening calls.
