Defying a fatwa issued by Muslim clerics, even Muslim students across Madhya Pradesh participated in the mass surya namaskar on Thursday.
The mass programme was conceived by the school education department in a bid to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

Commissioner, public instructions Arun Kochar said this yoga exercise was performed in about 1.25 lakh schools of the state. More than 50 lakh students and about the same number of guardians and state officials participated.
Terming the exercise "un-Islamic and idolatrous", Muslim clerics had alleged that the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government was "gently and insidiously saffronising education in the state"
