Aamir in Dangal trailer: Let daughters win this fight against stereotypes

Aamir Khan shared the first trailer of his upcoming film on wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat early Thursday and it is set to rule hearts with the authentic, rustic sets and charming actors playing Aamir’s daughters.

The three-and-a-half-minute trailer introduces us to wrestler Mahavir (played by Aamir) and his evolving thoughts on daughters versus sons debate.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Aamir-starrer Dangal will hit theatres on December 23.

What makes it realistic is that the Haryanvi wrestler pines for a son because only a son can complete his dream of winning a gold medal for the country. However, it is his daughters who change the perception when he realises that they can punch a few miscreants and even beat them up. Phogat then realises, “Jo baat meri samajh me na aayi wo ye ke gold to gold hota hai, chahe beta laye ya beti.”

While Aamir charms with his intense looks and revolutionary dialogues on gender stereotypes, it is the daughters who steak the thunder in the video. We are also impressed with Sakshi Tanwar’s rustic look.

As Aamir tells his daughters, “Misaalein di jaati hain, bhooli nahi jaati”. We hope the film will be one such example in subverting gender equations in Bollywood.
