In the movie, Prakash Raj, who plays a politician, says, “Ek phone par mein hazaron logon ko Karnataka border se lakar khada kar dunga (With one call, I can get hundreds of people from the Karnataka border).

In response, Ajay’s character, Maharashtrian cop Bajirao Singham, says, “Tum jaise kutton ke liye, mein hi kafi hoon, Maharashtra se hazaro log ki zaroorat nahin” (For dogs like you, I alone am enough, I don’t need thousands of people from Maharashtra).

Pro-Kannada organisations held protests outside theatres like the Bengaluru Tribhuvan, Radhakrishna theatre and Hubli Apsara, and urged them to stop the screening.

The matter was aggravated when the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) declared their support to the protestors. They demanded an apology from producers Reliance Big Entertainment and asked them to remove the scene and dialogues that portray Kannadigas in poor light from all movie prints across all states in the country.

This sudden outrage, which muted Singham’s success in the south, prompted the producer to issue a press release saying, “We apologise for any dialogue or scene in the movie Singham, which may have unwittingly upset or hurt the sentiments of the people.”Follow @htShowbiz for latest celeb buzz
