Since his 1999 singing debut, Krishnakumar Menon, better known by his initials KK, seems to have crossed over to the other side. The artiste, who launched his career with an indi-pop album, Pal, is now a staple in B-town.

So it boggles the mind, when he says, “I’m not interested in making songs for films.” Currently working on the tracks for films like Jannat 2, Jism 2 and Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi, the artiste explains, “I’ll never be a music director… I’m not cut out for that.”

Not the most prolific artiste, KK’s sophomore attempt came eight years after his debut album. The artiste now has no intentions of releasing an independent album.

“I’m happy doing what I am doing,” he says, adding, “I feel more pressure doing my own albums. They are a dicey proposition, though I hope this changes.”

About his filmi crossover, he adds, “Bollywood is a vortex, it sucks you in. It’s not the money that attracted me, but the opportunity to collaborate with people I liked. It made me realise my potential as a singer. In these 13 years, I’ve matured as a musician.”
