Irrfan Khan and Co may be waging a war against the classist discrimination against the Hindi-speaking, but box office figures from Friday confirm that the prejudice for English continues to rule the common mindset: While Mohit Suri’s Half Girlfriend earned Rs 10.27 crore on day one, Saket Choudhary’s Hindi Medium made a meagre opening collection of Rs 2.81 crore.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#HalfGirlfriend has a STRONG START... Fri ₹ 10.27 cr. India biz. #HindiMedium Fri ₹ 2.81 cr. India biz.”
Starring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles, Half Girlfriend is an onscreen adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller by the same name.
