Do you get nervous when you start working on a new show?
Yes, I get the jitters. It’s normal to anticipate a negative response than a positive one. This time, I am working with a director who is a good friend. He is shocked that I want to look at every scene after it is shot and ask for retakes. I have played a vampire in Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani and a superstar in Madhubala. In the new show, I play a regular guy, which is tougher. So, it’s natural to have doubts.

TV actors become stars and gain popularity once the show is a hit. But how important is it to reinvent as an actor?
You have to; that’s why I didn’t do a daily soap for two years post Madhubala. I was offered similar roles. Producers would say that the role is of an arrogant, rich guy. I’d keep telling them that I’ve played the role before. I didn’t want to repeat. I had the option. I could have made easy money, but I am not in the cheating business. I am in the entertainment business. I will make an effort to look for new roles. I want to give the audience something they haven’t seen before.

Have you achieved what you set out to accomplish?
I never set out to accomplish anything in life. I never made plans or had targets. I like to live in the moment and focus on one thing. You don’t know what will happen tomorrow. Let’s be honest in what we are doing today rather than think about something that isn’t in our control.
