I don’t dress up or look pretty for other people: Sonam Kapoor

The actor says she is passionate about acting as that’s her craft and vocation but fashion “is something that is entrenched in my life.”

Ever since she made her Bollywood debut with Saawariya (2007), Sonam Kapoor has been hailed as a true-blue fashion icon, due to her chic looks. “I didn’t intend (to become a fashion icon). I dress up for myself. I don’t dress up and look pretty for other people. I do it because it makes me feel good, and because I love fashion and clothes,” she says.

The actor feels that being a fashionista is not her job. “It’s an extension of my personality. I am passionate about acting — that’s my craft and vocation. Fashion is something that is entrenched in my life, because I enjoy it. I like looking good and love different clothes. That’s why I consider that [fashion] an art, and [think of] fashion designers as artists,” she says.

“Social media is a great form of communication, and a great tool. Misusing anything can be bad. You have to use social media effectively to communicate, make a difference and understand people. I love it, because I don’t misuse it. There are a lot of people who feel that it’s too much [to handle], but it’s about how you do it. As a generation, we overuse and overdo things, and there’s a need for moderation in everything. You shouldn’t misuse it, and that [being able to use it effectively] can only come from education, awareness, and lack of ignorance,” she says.
