I don’t think I can be like anyone else: Genelia Deshmukh

Genelia Deshmukh talks about her bubbly image and how things are changing in Bollywood for actresses who are married and have kids.

The media and the audience often attach certain tags to actors — be it Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘romantic hero’ label or Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘angry young man’ image. Genelia Deshmukh, too, is known to be a bubbly person, who often plays happy-go-lucky roles. However, the actor says she doesn’t feel that she has been “typecast”.

Genelia Deshmukh has two sons with her husband, actor Riteish Deshmukh.

“Honestly, I don’t know the meaning of the word ‘typecast’. I believe everyone has a personality. I don’t think I can be like someone else, because it (her image) is special to me. There are no two sides to me,” she says.

“I believe in certain kinds of promotional activities. Having said that, I don’t believe in doing everything that people think you need to do. You need to do what you believe in. Whether it is good, bad or ugly, you should decide because it is your journey. Maybe tomorrow, I will find the need to promote a film more than usual. There are some days that I won’t. It is all up to me,” she says.

Genelia, who delivered a baby boy, Rahyl, in June, also talks about the changing scenario for married actresses, even those who are mothers, in Bollywood.

“There are so many mothers out there who are doing their bit. They are still as glamorous as they were when they weren’t mothers. I believe this is a good change that has taken place in the industry,” she says.
