John Abraham’s recent release, Madras Cafe, has drawn critical acclaim from critics and the strong word-of-mouth publicity is reflecting in the box-office figures as well.
Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the film revolves around the Sri Lankan civil war and its impact on Indian politics, and has been able to create some amount of impact in the political circles.
For instance, on Wednesday, John was visited by Maninderjeet Singh Bitta, who is the chairman of the All India Anti-Terrorist Front (AIATF). He also served as the president of Indian Youth Congress during Narasimha Rao’s tenure as the Prime Minister (1991–1996).
A source close to the actor reveals that Bitta was all praises for the manner in which the film dealt with such a controversial subject. “They (Bitta and John) spoke at length and discussed how he had arrived at the decision to make a film on such a touchy subject. They also spoke about how he gathered all the information so meticulously and translated it perfectly into a film without frills,” says the source.
The AIATF chief apparently promised John that he would do his bit to make sure that the film reached the maximum audience. John confirms this development and says, “It’s overwhelming that Mr Singh was so moved by my performance that he personally came to meet me. He connected with the movie and wants to promote Madras Cafe.”
