Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli brings up ‘silly ex’ and ‘nepotism gang’ in new Twitter rant

Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel has stoked controversy once again after bringing up her ‘silly ex’ and ‘nepotism gang’ in new tweets.

Actor Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel, who wants to be referred to as her official spokesperson, has once again stoked controversy after a series of tweets in which she invoked a ‘silly ex’ and the ‘nepotism gang’ while telling a story about how Kangana was ostracised by the film industry.

Kangana Ranaut, Karan Johar and Hrithik Roshan have all feuded in the past.

Rangoli’s remarks came immediately after she commented on a statement made by Deepika Padukone’s Live Love Laugh Foundation, against Kangana’s upcoming film Mental Hai Kya.

Rangoli is perhaps referring to actor Hrithik Roshan, whom Kangana has called her ‘silly ex’ in the past, leading to a huge controversy which resulted in legal proceedings. By ‘nepotism gang’ Rangoli is probably referring to filmmaker Karan Johar and his frequent collaborators, who have been criticised by Kangana in the recent past.

The new row erupted after the Indian Psychiatry Society objected to Mental Hai Kya’s title and demanded a change. The society had written in their letter to the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairperson Prasoon Joshi, “We take serious objections to the title of the movie which is discriminative, stigmatising, degrading, inhumane in projecting mental disorders and people who suffer from mental disorders. We strongly demand that the title be removed with immediate effect preventing further damage to the modesty of mental health service users. We also demand to censor any sequence in the movie that is violating the rights of persons with mental disorder.”

Deepika’s TLLL Foundation had voiced similar concerns, writing in a tweet, “It is time we put an end to the use of words, imagery and/or the portrayal of persons with mental illness in a way that reinforces stereotypes. Many millions who suffer with mental illness in India already face tremendous stigma. Therefore,it is extremely important to be responsible and sensitive towards the needs of those suffering.”

Although Rangoli has suggested they’re on the same team, that is, both the foundation and Kangana want to spread awareness and provoke debate about mental health, she also questioned Deepika’s own history with depression. Attributing Deepika’s depression to ‘a break-up’, Rangoli wrote, ‘now she is a happily married woman who is enjoying marital bliss.’

Rangoli also retweeted and thanked a Twitter user who slammed Deepika, writing, “Bollywood is becoming so tacky that all the internal insecurities and jealousies r coming out so openly! @deepikapadukone can play acid attack victim but Kangana can’t do a film on mental illness.”

Mental Hai Kya stars Rajkummar Rao and Jimmy Shergill in supporting roles. Directed by Prakash Kovelamudi, written by Kanika Dhillon and produced by Ekta Kapoor, Mental Hai Kya is slated for a June 21 release.
