Low budget films not viable for actors like me: Akshay

Despite low-budget films enjoying the success that many big-banner movies have failed to replicate in the recent past, Akshay Kumar feels such movies are not meant for Bollywood actors like him as it is not financially viable.

"Established stars like Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan or me cannot venture for low-budget films like Udaan or Tere Bin Laden because high box office returns are expected from our films," the actor said on the sidelines of the music launch of his forthcoming film Patiala House.

"I have seen the business of these films. There is a very niche audience for them. When Shahrukh, Salman or even I... do a film we have to collect a certain amount of money through our films so that distributors and exhibitors get their money back," he said.

Such kind of films collect a maximum of Rs eight crore at the box office. While, commercial films make a business of at least Rs 70 crore, the actor said.

However, the 'Khiladi' expressed hope that low-budget films would find a greater audience in the near future.
