If director Mahesh Bhatt's calling card is his unusual take on romance in his films (make that the darker side of love, shall we?), here's someone who claims to be an unapologetic fan of his: Mohit Suri, director of Vidya Balan, Emraan Hashmi and Rajkummar Rao's
Ahead of his film's release on June 12, here's how Suri reacted when told that Vidya Balan finds his films similar to the kind of cinema Bhatt made. "It's the best compliment ever! Actually, it's quite true. Bhatt saab came to me like a newcomer and asked me, 'Can I write a film for you?'. Of course, I said yes. I had Mahesh Bhatt writing for my film, what else do can I ask for? I think the kind of films that Bhatt saab made has now found a new following with the multiplex culture. I am just trying to take that forward."

The promos of Hamari Adhuri Kahani hinted at domestic violence as one of the core issues in the movie. In a chat with Hindustan Times, Mohit elaborated on the film's plot. "is not an issue-based film and the focus is not domestic violence. This is a hard-core love story and it is just close to reality," he said.
With an impressive CV of musical hits (Aashiqui 2, Ek Villain, Kalyug and Murder 2) behind him, Suri's ensured that Hamari Adhuri Kahani only added to the list. "The title track of can actually tell the whole story if you listen to it closely. I tend to rely on the music for storytelling," Mohit said.

Talking about his new collaboration with Universal Music, he said, "EMI Records is an extension of what I have been unknowingly doing. It's not some super sense of music that I have but the kind of people I have been working with over the years and following new talents. Be it Ankit Tewari or Arijit Singh, they were people who created great music. I just provided them with a platform to showcase their talents. EMI realised it." EMI Records is a new venture of Universal Music that aims to provide platform for budding talent in music.

If there's a song that can be a fir into Karan's film or Vikas's film or can be great as an independant song, it should be promoted as such. What Mohit brings into the partnership is the understanding of music that the country loves. We want to become a platform where al kinds of songs find their perfect place, be it a film or a single, or film festivals. Anyone and everyone can email us a small video or a sample."
"I am dying to find someone who doesn't have the means, money but and we become the means for his talent to be shown to the world. That is the kind of life-changing stories I'd love to be part of," he added.
