After making multiple films based on socio-political issues, filmmaker Prakash Jha has created a niche for himself in Bollywood. However, that doesn’t mean the director isn’t concerned about the business of filmmaking. He is now eyeing the fabled Rs 100 crore club with his latest film, Chakravyuh.
“I also try and make films that make Rs 100 crore. I really work hard on my films. Do I do less than those who travel around the world to shoot their films? I am looking forward to making Rs100 crore with Chakravyuh too,” says Prakash, whose film is set to hit theatres on October 24.
Even the reigning members of the club — the Khans and Akshay Kumar — are now on Prakash’s wish list.“I am working on scripts which I can fit the Khans (Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh) or Akshay (Kumar) in. They are all brilliant actors; and I would love to work with them,” he says.Starring Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai, Abhay Deol and Esha Gupta, Chakravyuh revolves around the Naxal movement.
And according to Prakash, now “is the right time to make such a film” because the issue has only recently resurfaced and grabbed the attention of the government. “It is expanding; it’s coming out of forests and spilling over to the cities and universities,” says Prakash, adding, “In 1967, it started in Naxalbari and spread rapidly across Andhra Pradesh, Telengana and the Dandakaranya forest. It is rampant in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa.” Though the filmmaker is certain that his next will not be able to influence the political standpoint on the subject, he does feel that it will be able to give audiences a rare insight into the life of a Naxalite.
